Resources

This is a short page on purpose.

Most “travel resources” pages are a wall of forty logos, and every one of them pays a commission. That tells you nothing except that the writer joined forty affiliate programmes.

This page lists tools only once we have used them ourselves on a real trip. It is short today and it will grow slowly, which is the point. Where the best option pays us nothing, it still goes here, and it is labelled as such.

Flights

The habit that saves more than any booking tool: check the whole month before you commit to your dates. Moving a trip by three weeks routinely beats every booking trick combined, and it costs nothing to check.

Rooms

What we do differently: for stays over a week, we find the guesthouse on a booking site and then message it directly. Outside high season the answer is usually a lower price than any platform shows, because nobody is paying commission on it.

In Morocco this matters more than most places. Riads in the medina are often family run, and a direct message in the low season gets a different price and a better room.

Getting around Morocco

Trains are run by ONCF, and for the Casablanca to Tangier route the high speed line is worth the difference. Book the day before in high season. Between cities the trains do not serve, the grand taxi is the normal way people travel, and it leaves when it is full rather than on a timetable.

The full breakdown, with what each option costs, is in Getting around Morocco.

Insurance

Read this clause first, whatever you buy: whether the policy covers you while riding a scooter or a motorbike, and whether it requires a licence you actually hold. It is the single most common reason a travel claim is refused, and it catches people in exactly the countries where everyone rents a scooter.

Money

Carry two cards from two different networks, stored separately. Not a tip, a rule. Cards get eaten by machines, blocked by fraud systems, and skimmed. A single card is a single point of failure on a trip you have already paid for.

The dirham is a closed currency. You cannot get it before you arrive, and you should not try: change money after you land, and keep cash on you, because outside hotels and supermarkets almost nothing takes a card.

What is not on this page

Anything we have not used. There are lucrative affiliate programmes for tours, luggage and gear we have never touched. They are not here, and that is the whole point of the page.

Anything with a bad cancellation policy, however well it pays.

How this page is paid for

Some links here are affiliate links: if you book through one, Roamdusk earns a commission and you pay exactly the same price. It is the main way this site is funded.

Three rules govern every link on this site, and they are set out in full in our Editorial Policy:

  1. We only link to operators we have used.
  2. The commission never decides the recommendation.
  3. Every page carrying commission links says so, on the page.

If a tool here stops being the one we use, it comes off this page.
